(ER057) Abstract Daddy – Sleepers Plates
Crooked, creaking shadows just ahead, you lurk in a giant time capsule of man, underground ruin searching for light. The darkness plays tricks on you. It whispers in your ear, it scurries to and fro before you. You can smell it, you can feel the tremors in your feet, resonating from a haunting ground of black. Curious, horrified, tired, you keep trudging on looking for compromise. You like for a torch, so you may see what lay just feet before you, and oh how your heart pounds and thoughts rot into nightmare. This is an album of the macabre, truly dark and eerie, and oh so beautiful because of it, because it punctures you, straight into the main nerve of that emotion of nail biting fear in an unknown place, perhaps lost, or unsure, or walking into demise. These tracks move slow, and in doing so, our mind races in distraught motion through these hazes of breathing shadows. Abstract Daddy is a name I immediately wanted to become familiar with, after having listened to these works, and finding another release of his on Misspelled records, I have affirmed my love for this artist’s work. These drones of his, which follow his mission statement of unnerving the listener, are masterfully put together with sharp ears, familiar with the feelings it wishes to evoke in us, and with the scuttling of a spider across a flickering room, you shall flinch and recoil, and renounce the dead of night, under the new moon, under a ceiling of dripping stone. Murmurs all about, and I’ll let you decide what it is they are saying to you, you fatigued skull, you weary mannequin. Grow eyes on the back of your head. Listen carefully. Move slowly. Enjoy! A beautiful reminder of the power of art, how some of the most profoundly perturbing emotions can be concocted by such quiet meditations.
