(ER029) Various Artists – N.O.S. Revisited

To call these tracks soundscapes would be putting it lightly. These are vast tundras of sound, ambient and rhythmic alike. What is on the menu today is more retrospection of the work of Alex Vargas. Operating under many different pseudonyms, Vargas is joined only by his collaborator and friend Maxim S, who appear together as “Triad”. Maxim embodies M.F.H, while Vargas explores many different corners of atmospheric, trance music under R45, Fibre, Fin de Siecle, & At The Edge Of Dawn. Under these manifestations, the two have an album that expands into territory vast and unexpected. Thousands of forks in the road, the rain doing away with your muddy footsteps, there is no pampering here, but if you are willing to anticipate not anticipating these master sound architect’s next move at your riveted psyche, you may very well find yourself smiling from ear to ear. Dark ambiance, abstract experimentalism, fading lands, addictive rhythms, industrial & ethnic percussion, and a refreshing-as-pina-colada touch of “the concrete music”. The refinement in care in the samples and eerie backdrop strokes makes these sounds highly spacial and physically assertive. Textures with enough density to tingle our whole being. The love of music is also salivating on your pie at every corner, undeniable. If I were you, i’d savor the spit serenading your dessert, because the genres stray every which way in this compilation from the gods, and a word that comes to mind is “cinematic”. This is an album to play as the parrots caw silhouetted by a copper orb in the sky. I’m listening to it now, and this will mark the sixth time I’ve heard it, and I do not have that time to spare. You’ll be more hooked on this than you are hooked on the lightbulb. Oh, and a final note. It’s lovely how the album cover utilizes every one of the elements together in that one image, a wonderful omen for what lay in this compilation from the depths.

About

Emanate the residue, my friends. All foundations have dismantled. The veils have all lifted. The stench of rot is in the air. Breathe in the aroma deeply, my friends. You, a fellow secreter of radiance and soul. Let us dissolve reality and float about in the primordial world where everything imaginable comes to pass. Come, transcend the mud by digging into it. My friends, let us bask in the effluvia of it all!
