(ER079) Seventeen Red – Everywhere Ever Forever
Here we are again with the fine work of Dmitry Volovikov, who released the album just before this one on the stinky and beautiful Effluvia recordings under the pseudonym “The Bear’s Voice” which was a collection of piano/drum pieces with occasional synth and guitar and what-have-you. Here, under the name “Seventeen Red”, similar things are utilized, yet with a different mission statement and emotional depth. Where the last album had a more delicate and introspective poetry to it, full of revelation and anguish, this release covers different revelations, different anguish. These pieces make use of electric guitar, as well as keyboards and the percussion, and while the last record by Volovikov had a lot to say, this one does too. The directions these pieces of music take is more unpredictable, more aggressive, but still work in a marvelous way, both by themselves and as an album in the big picture, this work astounds. It shows how much you can do with a little. if for whatever reason his prior Effluvia work of art does not do it for you, try out this new direction, and let it take you through all new emotional structures.
