(ER095) Andrea Leonessa, M. Anne Quinn, & Tomasso Busatto – PLC (Poetical Logic Controller)
The term “inner cinema” is thrown around a lot. The planet of the noise listener orbits a much different sun than the people of earth. Musique Concrete, Drone, Noise, Experimental, all of these genres are so hypnotic and otherworldy that the listener can be taken lightyears away from the realm of people. Isolationists listen to this kind of stuff, and so, we can get so wrapped up in the textures and time signatures of pure surrealism and acousmatic mysteries and experience a progression of emotions that can certainly feel Cinematic. We create world of creativity inside our stranded heads, entrancing us like a film in a darkened theater does, so loud and captivating. I can safely say this is an example of cinematic noise. Tommaso Busatto is a name I am happy to be familiar with, and his sound is very difficult to place. He creates bottomless music, bottomless in such a way as to find it impossible to fathom, and yet it’s done so carefully and masterfully that one cannot imagine it. Therefore I find it difficult to describe his music, and I think that is genius. It’s highly selfless. The sound creates strong emotions, but the artist behind it allows himself to exist behind the sounds, just as the eye of a director is behind the camera. M. Anne Quinn speaks a different language, but what he utters is in the same spirit. The sound is intangible, and filled with emotional at all times, like the characters in our dreams, and sometimes our nightmares. Very loud and dissonant, his music sounds more operatic at times than opera, and yet the human voice feels so distant, as we feel distant and seperated from the world outside these marvelous tracks. Both of these artists together work perfectly because they both utilize their style with such craft as to create an entirely new entity. You cannot tell who is creating who, and that’s a fucking collaboration for you! and oh I cannot get over how much I love the extra dimension of this album. Vocals, words, screams, from the amazing throat of Andrea Leonessa! With a voice that would scare the hell out of fans of power electronics, offers a wonderfully stylized slur of ardent speech. Shouting with no tomorrow, so shrill and fervent and yet blending perfectly to the sporadic nature of the other two artists. He really adds a narrative to the cinema for our ears, and we suddenly can have a subject of our film, and the soundtrack to this angry voice’s life is a hell of a spectacle! The curtains open, the screen begins to flicker…
